How To

Start Up With Pristine Blue

The Pristine Blue system is very straightforward and easy to understand. Pristine Blue provides everything you need to maintain a happy and healthy pool. In this article, I will go over everything you need to know about starting up your Pristine Blue pool!

You might be overwhelmed trying to start your pool. Don't worry, I have been there! Let me make things nice and easy for you!

Prepping / Filling Your Pool

Filling Up Your Pool

Begin by filling your pool with water from your local water source. If using a hose, consider a pre-filter to remove heavy metals and toxins. While these filters may seem costly, they prevent the need for additional chemicals at startup. This preparation ensures clean and safe water. Below is a link to a product we recommend to our customers for filling up their pool. It will filter 10,000 gallons of water!

After Your Pool Is Full

Once your pool is full, turn the pump on and let it run 24 hours, then adjust your pH and Alkalinity to balance your water. This is important because your chemicals will not work correctly if you do not have these levels within acceptable ranges. No matter what system you use (chlorine, bromine, Pristine Blue), you need to have these levels balanced. Below are the products you might need to adjust these levels depending on your water. This process can take some time. Be patient and get the levels where they need to be before starting the Pristine Blue system.

Starting Pristine Blue

Follow These Steps Below
STEP #1
  • Once your pH and Alkalinity are in the acceptable range, you can add your Pristine Check. I will add the dosages below. Pristine Check is a water prep. It helps take out calcium in your water. This product is typically only used during start-up and if you add larger amounts of water. I would recommend only buying what you need for startup and maybe a small amount over that since you do not use it all that much after the start up is done.
  • While calcium is vital for pool water balance, elevated calcium levels may result in problems such as scaling, cloudy water, and harm to pool surfaces and equipment. Maintaining the appropriate calcium hardness level for the Pristine Blue system, typically ranges from 200-400 ppm.

Pristine Check Dosage
Add 20 Fluid Ounces per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Run Filter for 6 Hours.

STEP #2
Add Pristine Extra. I will add the dosage below. Pristine Extra is designed to shock your pool. It is a sanitizer and will kill bacteria and algae in the water. Pristine Extra is considered chlorine. You only NEED to use the Pristine Extra during start up to kill all the bacteria and algae. After this step, you CAN use a shock that is a non-chlorine shock (Pristine Power). It will not be as strong as Pristine Extra, and we recommend keeping Pristine Extra on hand in case you start to have water issues. Pristine Power is a shock oxidizer and does not contain chlorine.

With the Pristine Blue system, we use Copper (Pristine Blue) to keep the bacteria and algae away. It is a secondary sanitizer, so you still need a primary one to kill all the bacteria and algae. The beauty of this system is that the Pristine Power and Pristine Extra shock your pool and it dissipates rapidly. You will find a miniul residual amount in your water after a couple of hours. Copper (Pristine Blue) will be doing most of the work by keeping the Bacteria and Algae away.

Pristine Extra Dosage
  • Add 1 lb of Pristine Extra per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Continue running your filter pump.
  • Backwash filter or clean the cartridge thoroughly
  • If your pool was green prior to converting to Pristine Blue, you may have to add Pristine Extra daily until the water is clear.

STEP #3
The final start-up step will be adding the Pristine Blue. Pristine Blue is the main product in this chemical line. It controls the Algae and sanitizes most of the bacteria when you keep a level of Pristine Blue (copper) in your pool. Every 2 weeks, you will add Pristine Blue to your water. The goal is to get the Pristine Blue to a level of 0.9. The initial dose will be a larger dose of Pristine Blue because you are adding the Pristine Blue for the first time and getting it to the 0.9 level. After the initial dose, you will test the level every 2 weeks and add the amount of Pristine Blue you need to get it back to the 0.9 level. We have a testing kit and a dosage chart that will help you with this!

Pristine Blue Dosage
  •  Add the amount of Pristine Blue according to the chart.
  • After you are done with this step you will follow the mainenance guide in 2 weeks.
